Weekly Trending Audio [Week Mar 10th - 16th]: How to Find and Use Trending Audio on Instagram
How to Find Trending Audio on Instagram
If you’re really serious about growing your account on Instagram, you need to know trending audio is one of the best ways to get more views for your Reels or carousels. After I started content marketing and grew my account to 70k followers in just a few months, I found several of my viral Reels were using trending audio. Instagram prioritizes content that’s tied to trending sounds, meaning if you use the right audio at the right time, your content will have a much better impression than if you don’t.
But the trick isn’t just using any trending audio, it’s more about finding audio before it gets oversaturated. Here’s how you can find them on Instagram before everyone else does:
1. Look for the Trending Arrow on Reels
If you scroll through your Reels feed, you might find some of the Reels have audio with a small diagonal arrow next to the audio name. That arrow means this audio is trending right now.
To find them:
- Open Instagram and go to the Reels tab
- Scroll through and watch for the trending arrow
- Tap the audio to see how many Reels are using it
If a sound has under 50,000 Reels, it’s still early—meaning now is the time to use it.
2. Search for Trending Audio on Instagram
Instagram now allows you to search for audio directly. Just go to the search bar and type:
- “Trending sounds”
- “Viral Instagram audio”
- “Reels trending music”
This will show you recent Reels using the most popular sounds right now.
3. Follow Trend Spotters
Some Instagram creators specialize in tracking Reels trends. Following them can help you spot trending audio before it blows up.
4. Watch Niche-Specific Trends
A sound might be viral in the travel niche but hasn’t hit fitness creators yet. This is where you can get ahead. If you spot a trend in one niche, jump in before it spreads.

Why Trending Audio on Instagram Works
The reason using trending audio boosts your post’s reach is not a myth—that’s how the algorithm works. Using trending audio tells the Instagram algorithm that your content is relevant to the posts that went viral. It’s like interacting with viral posts, and this helps push your video to a wider audience. But just adding a trending sound to any video won’t work—you need to use it strategically.
Here’s why it works:
- Trending sounds stop the scroll. People recognize the sound and pay more attention when they hear it.
- The Instagram algorithm favors trending content. The more people use a sound, the more likely Instagram is to push those videos to a bigger audience.
- It increases engagement. More visibility = higher chances of likes, comments, and shares.
How to Use Trending Audio Effectively:
- Use a strong hook in the first 3 seconds—grab attention fast.
- Make sure the audio fits your content. Don’t force a trend if it doesn’t match your niche.
- Post while the trend is rising. If a sound has 100K+ Reels already, it’s too late to get the full boost.
Stay Ahead of Instagram Trends
If you post randomly, you will grow randomly, but if you post with strategy, you will skyrocket. That’s why if you want to grow your Instagram faster, using trending audio at the right time is a game changer. But trends move fast—if you wait too long to use them, you will miss the opportunity.
That’s why I share a weekly trending audio report. So you never have to guess or spend hours scrolling Instagram to find out what’s working. You can get the latest trending sounds in your inbox every week for free. [Sign up here.]
